Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, met with Shaswar Abdulwahid, the President of the New Generation Movement (NGM) on Tuesday (May 31).

The major topic of discussion was the upcoming parliamentary election in the Kurdistan Region, scheduled to be held in October. They also spoke on the current general situation in Iraq.

Abdulwahid announced at the Iraqi parliament following the meeting that both sides stressed holding a transparent election in its due time.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq – UNAMI held a closed meeting last week for representatives of the Kurdistan Region’s political parties, including the New Generation Movement, to discuss issues related to the election.

Plasschaert said the meeting offered a "welcome and timely opportunity for the direct exchange of views.”
