New Generation Movement President Shaswar Abdulwahid said that the reason for Kurdistan Region’s people migrating is because of their disappointment of the Region’s development. He said that "after 30 years, Kurdish rulers are the same without any changes or reforms.” "Apart from the reasons we have mentioned earlier, in a simple language, is the lack of hope.” He added. Abdulwahid previously talked about the issue and said lack of job opportunities, security and economy instability is the reason for people to leave the Region. Thousands of migrants and asylum from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are currently stranded on the Poland-Belarus border. At least ten people have died in recent months trying to cross the border from Belarus.

‘PEOPLE ARE DISAPPOINTED’ IN THE KURDISTAN REGION’S DEVELOPMENT:

Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, met with Shaswar Abdulwahid, the President of the New Generation Movement (NGM) on Tuesday (May 31). The major topic of discussion was the upcoming parliamentary election in the Kurdistan Region, scheduled to be held in October. They also spoke on the current general situation in Iraq. Abdulwahid announced at the Iraqi parliament following the meeting that both sides stressed holding a transparent election in its due time. The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq – UNAMI held a closed meeting last week for representatives of the Kurdistan Region’s political parties, including the New Generation Movement, to discuss issues related to the election. Plasschaert said the meeting offered a "welcome and timely opportunity for the direct exchange of views.”

Shaswar Abdulwahid and the New Generation Movement, at their office in Baghdad on the occasion of Newroz, organized a dinner for members of the diplomatic community, including the USA, Britain, the EU, Australia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, Algeria, Lebanon, the Philippines and India, as well as representatives from Norway, Canada, Finland, the Netherlands and Egypt. Shaswar Abdulwahid also welcomed the Ambassador of Turkey in Baghdad today.
